WHAT IS INDOCHINA MOVEMENT
DISORDERS CONFERENCE ?
The first Indochina Movement Disorders Conference was held in August 2022 in Ho-Minh City, Vietnam. The conference offered a basic to advanced knowledge updates on Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders for general practitioners, neurologists, and neurology residents. The objectives of the conference were to provide a platform to better understand the situation in the region, share best practices, and plan how to address the recognized challenges and improve healthcare services for people living with movement disorders.
A total of 146 participated in person and a further 317 participants joined the online platform. Professor Raymond Rosales, current Chair of the International Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Society-Asian and Oceanian section (MDS-AOS), which aims to promote educational activities within the AOS region, also participated in the meeting.
Participants acknowledged that improved collaboration between countries in Indochina is key and will contribute to the development of more robust and resilient healthcare delivery processes for movement disorders which will eventually mean better care for patients. These initiatives align with the six key areas action plan proposed by the WHO and also a recent international consensus statement on best practice for delivering patient-centered care in PD.
